We didn’t want to leave you hanging for too long before unveiling yet another member on the panel.
It’s a huge privilege to now announce that David Young TD DL, Deputy Lieutenant and Chairman of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, will be helping our other judges to choose this year’s winners.
David, who previously served in the army, has travelled extensively throughout Asia and tells us of his experience of being asked to judge the awards and what the process involved:
“Following my departure from the army, I was very fortunate that my work afforded me the opportunity to travel to many different countries, mostly in Asia. I have enjoyed South Asian cuisine in some of smartest restaurants in Sri Lanka as I have inexpensive street food in Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai.
“After I was invited to become a judge for the Leicestershire Curry Awards, I was sent out to visit a list of restaurants in Leicestershire. Where I originally thought I was solely making a judgment on the quality of each restaurant’s cuisine, the brief turned out to be much broader.
“Throughout the process I gave my opinion on the design and ambience of the restaurant, the welcome I received, the menu choice and the freshness of the poppadoms. At the end of each visit I had to determine whether the total experience offered exceptional value for money.”
