The first mystery judge for this year’s Leicestershire Curry Awards has been revealed… and it’s Rob Nixon – a man who is no stranger to the judging hot seat.

2025 marks the third year that Rob has served on the judging panel for the Leicestershire Curry Awards, having previously taken part in both 2023 and 2024.

It’s an experience he savours and one he has previously described as a “fantastic culinary adventure” — and this year, the journey continues.

Mr Nixon, the former Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police and recently appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire, is once again relishing the role. He praised the consistently high standards shown by restaurants across the region, calling the awards “a true celebration of talent, resilience, and cultural richness.”

“It’s a pleasure to be back as a judge for 2025 and a privilege to enjoy food from so many outstanding restaurants across both the city and county,” said Mr Nixon, who also serves as an honorary professor at De Montfort University.

“Although times remain challenging for the hospitality industry, what never wavers is the commitment, creativity, and heart that local businesses put into every dish. These awards shine a light on the people behind the scenes — the chefs, families, and teams — who keep Leicester’s food scene vibrant and thriving.”

“Good luck to all the finalists on September 15. The competition is tough, but it’s a celebration of excellence, passion, and flavour. It’s more than just great food — it’s community, heritage, and a reminder of what makes Leicestershire such a special place to dine.”
