This year is the third time that Nishan Canagarajah has served as a judge at our awards, experiencing the mouth watering diversity of our county’s curry scene once more…
As the University of Leicester’s Vice-Chancellor, Nishan has a vested interest in the success of the city. He is a big champion of its businesses and the incredible diversity we have here. He is also a fan of Leicester’s thriving curry scene, believing it to have some of the best Indian restaurants in the country.

Originally from Sri Lanka, Nishan came to the UK to complete his studies and received a BA Hons and PHD from the University of Cambridge. He joined the University of Leicester as President and Vice-Chancellor in 2019.
Nishan has thoroughly enjoyed his experience of being a judge this year.
He tells us: “Having been involved previously I was able to witness the tremendous diversity and mouth watering dishes on offer here in Leicester region.
“It made the task of picking the winners very difficult indeed!”
